Photographing Monika and Jonathan’s Brooklyn Bridge Park wedding reminded us how beautiful can simplicity be. The couple, now living in Roanoke, Virginia, first met in Brooklyn, NY almost 9 years ago. Fresh out of college, New York City presented the couple with endless opportunities and limitless adventures.

When they first started dating, Monika lived in Prospect Heights across from Prospect Park. Jonathan lived out on Long Island. Together, they spent almost every weekend exploring the different parts of Brooklyn on bike, on foot, and on the Subway. After several years of dating, they would later move in together choosing Brooklyn’s Park Slope. Several years later the couple would leave Brooklyn, NY for Roanoke, VA. In Virginia they would always reminisce about NYC and their memories of Brooklyn, and their adventures.

They loved Brooklyn so much, and it’s such a part of their story they would later name their dog Brooklyn. In fall 2021, while living in Virginia, Jonathan proposed. The couple instantly knew how and where they’d get married. It was only fitting Brooklyn, NY would be their special place on their special day.

How to get married in Brooklyn Bridge Park

First, you’ll need to select a spot within the park. There are several great locations within Brooklyn Bridge Park for a wedding ceremony. All of the locations offer unobstructed views of the Manhattan Skyline, Brooklyn Bridge, and the World Trace Center while offering some amount of privacy. Jonathan and Monika chose the Granite Prospect in Brooklyn Bridge Park for their wedding day. Next, you’ll need to purchase a permit from the city’s Parks Department to assemble a group. The permit does not allow for private use of the space. Meaning, you can not tell people they are not allowed in the park or the area of the park is closed because of the wedding.

Where to get ready for a Brooklyn Bridge wedding

The One Hotel in Brooklyn Bridge Park offers a convenient, beautiful, and very accommodating place for the bride to get dressed. The rooms are spacious and offer sweeping views of Manhattan. From Monika’s room at the One Hotel she saw the Brooklyn Bridge, World Trade Center, Empire State Building, and Statue of Liberty.

Photographing a Brooklyn Bridge Park Wedding

As a Professional NYC Wedding photographer I can confidently say “my camera has taken me all over the place”. From venues in Manhattan to Long Island’s East End Vineyards, and back down to the Jersey Shore I’ve experienced all of the beautiful places the area holds. Each location is unique and special for each couple. However, having your wedding in New York City is truly unique. And having your wedding in Brooklyn Bridge Park is special. The park captures the city’s most famous landmarks and really provides a unique context as to where you are. There are very few places in all of New York City that would allow a photograph to capture the Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, World Trade Center, and the Statue of Liberty all at once.
